Snowflake DBA
Job Description:
Our client is looking for a Snowflake DBA (Database Administrator).
In this position you will be responsible for managing and optimizing databases’ performance, security, and reliability within the Snowflake Data Cloud platform.
Responsibilities:
- Database Setup and Configuration: o Configuring warehouses, databases, and other Snowflake objects
- Ensuring optimal configuration settings for performance and cost-efficiency
- Performance Monitoring and Tuning: o Monitoring the performance of Snowflake environments and executing performance tuning strategies to optimize query execution and resource utilization
- Data Security and Compliance: o Implementing and managing security measures within Snowflake, including data encryption, access controls, and network policies to protect sensitive information
- Backup and Disaster Recovery: o Although Snowflake provides automatic backups and failover capabilities, the DBA is responsible for planning and managing disaster recovery strategies and data retention policies
- Cost Management: To monitoring and optimizing Snowflake credit usage to control costs without compromising performance to advising on cost-effective use of Snowflake features and resources
- User Management and Support: to managing user accounts, roles, and access privileges to ensure secure and appropriate access to the database
- Collaboration and Documentation: To collaborating with data engineers, analysts, and IT teams to support data-related activities o Documenting database schemas, configurations, procedures, and best practices
Requirements:
- Snowflake experience (3-5 years)
- Strong understanding of Snowflake’s architecture, including virtual warehouses, databases, roles, and security features
- Proficient in SQL for querying and managing Snowflake databases
- Skills in query performance tuning and resource optimization in a cloud environment
- Knowledge of best practices in data security, encryption, and compliance within cloud environments (e.g. GDPR, StateRAMP, FedRAMP)
- Familiarity with cloud services, particularly those related to data storage and computation, and an understanding of cloud cost management
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve database issues efficiently
- Db2 experience and/or PostgreSQL (2-5 years)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Excellent communication skills are required
Optional Requirements:
- Experience with DB tools such as DBT and SQL DBA
- Certifications specific to Snowflake, such as the Snowflake SnowPro Core Certification
